Auto trim is the piece of metal or plastic on either the inside or the outside of your car that makes your vehicle look the way that it does. Some people prefer certain looks and styles over others. For this reason, you may wish to engage in trim removal in order to paint or substantially modify your vehicle. There are numerous tools that you will need to use whenever you engage in trim removal.
One of the main tools that you will need for trim removal is a plastic chisel. This will help you get under the metal pieces of trim that are attached to the outside of your vehicle. These are usually attached there with strong, waterproof adhesive. Since the chisel is made out of plastic it will not scratch or dent the exterior of your car whenever it is used for trim removal. Oftentimes the chisel will have notches on its end so that it can hook under a piece of trim and give you leverage whenever you are pulling it up.
You will also need to use a flathead screwdriver for trim removal. This will allow you to unscrew things like mirrors and door handles. You can also wedge the flat metal tip on your screwdriver under a piece of trim in order to pry it up but you will need to be careful not to scratch or dent your car while doing so.
While you may already have these tools lying around for trim removal, if not, you can also purchase a trim removal kit. These kits contain between five to seven different pieces of rigid plastic that are used in the trim removal process. These plastic pieces have various ridges, hooks and circular openings that will allow you to use your imagination while conducting trim removal. Such a kit will usually cost between $10 and $20.
Regardless of what tools you use for trim removal, you now have a better idea of what is involved. You will simply need to decide if you already have the tolls you need or if you need to spend some money on a trim removal kit. Either way, you will find that trim removal really is not that difficult of a job.
